Prior to cofounding GreenClark PLLC, Stephen was a solo practitioner and served as a Federal Public Defender in Dallas, Texas for over five years. During that time, he represented individuals in more than 400 federal cases. This invaluable experience taught Stephen how to leverage every part of the federal system.
Stephen obtained his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 2013, where he graduated as a member of the Order of the Barristers, an award given to the graduating class’s top courtroom advocates. While at UT Law, Stephen also served as a mentor to incoming law students, led the UT Mock Trial Team to the National Semi Finals, and worked as an Editor for the American Journal of Criminal Law.
After graduating from law school, Stephen landed a federal clerkship under United States District Judge Marcia A. Crone in the Eastern District of Texas, where he was responsible for maintaining a docket of over 100 civil and criminal cases. Working directly with a federal judge taught Stephen how to craft arguments and briefs to judges in the most compelling way.
Prior to law school, Stephen spent three years teaching high-school history at an under resourced school in New York City through Teach for America. His favorite experience as a teacher was founding an after school Mock Trial Team that beat several elite private schools in NYC’s highly competitive annual competition. While teaching, Stephen earned a Master’s Degree in Education. Stephen received his undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and History from the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated as a member of the distinguished Phi Beta Kappa society. Stephen completed study abroad programs in both Spain and Argentina, receiving certification for the advanced “C1” level of professional linguistic proficiency by the Spanish Government. He also spent a summer cycling from Austin, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska, to help raise over $200,000 for the American Cancer Society.
A leader in his community, Stephen is a graduate of both Leadership Dallas, an organization that promotes positive change for the greater Dallas area, and Leadership ISD, an organization that promotes educational excellence and equity. He also serves as a mock trial coach to outstanding young men at the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy, a DISD Magnet School.
In his free time, Stephen tries to keep up with his beautiful and talented bride, practices Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and is an ex-Ironman Triathlete. He also sings dinosaur songs on his guitar to his three young children.
